Beach Options

If we want easy access to the beaches, below are some options. Note that Kalaloch is a very popular beach campground, but it is the only one that requires reservations. I've already checked for our dates and there are only a few sites available for Wednesday and Thursday night only.

Ozette National Park
Lake Ozette is the most western mainland US lake and the state's third largest body of fresh water. The campground sits at the north end of the lake. The Parks map from previous post shows that there are some nice hikes down to the beach from the campground, and Shi Shi Beach and Arches is just north along the coast. Smaller campground with only 15 sites. $12/night. Bathrooms but no showers.

Mora National Park
The campground is located along the Quillayute River approximately two miles from Rialto Beach. There don't appear to be as many great hikes to the beach as Ozette but plenty of them from and along the beach once there, and La Push is there as well as the famous Hole in the Wall. 94 sites. $12/night. Bathrooms but no showers.

Love the ideas and using the blog...I've been out of the office, so I just saw it. Lake Ozette sounds like a great idea for several reasons. It will be new to all of us...I've never camped there. Eric heard it's a small, beautiful campground, and going mid-week may make it possible to get a site.

One of the biggest reasons this could be cool is because Kelly's been on a mission for years to get to the very tip of the US and we could go up there for a fun hike at Shi-Shi and Cape Flattery.

We could also go down to the Hoh rain forest and hike along the river...your 1st inspiration for this trip.

I'm sooooo psyched about this trip...nothing I'd rather do than be in nature with you 2!!!

About gear...I'm planning to bring a pretty large suitcase because I'm continuing on to Maine after this trip. Will that work in the truck? Will we have a cab over it...is that something we could rent for the trip...or are there other options for keeping our gear dry? Do you have camprests and sleeping bags...or can we rent some at REI on Wed?

Thanks for your calls today...I know we'll connect soon. Mucho love to you both, kay
